What Are Self-catering Accommodations?

When booking your next vacation, there are numerous criteria to consider. How will you get there? What will you do once you’re there? And perhaps most important of all, where will you stay? A growing trend in the travel industry is the ability for travelers to stay in self-catering resorts. Self-catering resorts are an option for cost-effective lodging while on your next vacation.

Self-Catering Accommodations Explained

Self-catering resorts are just like your standard apartment or hotel when it comes to amenities. When staying at a self-catering resort, you’ll still have access to multiple amenities including:

Pools

Gyms

Tennis Courts

Gardens

However, the big difference between self-catering resorts and standard hotels is that you have access to private cooking facilities. This can end up being a great way to save money while on vacation, allowing you to visit gorgeous locations on a budget.

There’s something to be said for enjoying local meals and trying new dishes. But when multiple people are eating out three times a day for five to seven days, the cost can add up quickly. If you’re concerned about money, you’ll find that you’d be much better off heading to the local grocery store and picking up local foods there.

Cutting back on how much you eat out is one of the best ways to save money while on vacation. Eating out once or twice a day, and cooking at your self-catering resort for the other meals, is a great way to save money while still being able to enjoy all your destination can offer.

Self-catering resorts may also be an excellent option for those traveling with their family. The rooms in self-catering accommodations tend to be bigger than standard hotels, making them an excellent choice for those traveling in large groups. Many of these accommodations also come with living rooms or communal areas, encouraging bonding time with others during your stay.

Think Beyond Hotels

When considering a self-catering resort, many people automatically think about hotels. However, there are multiple ways in which you could technically take advantage of self-catering accommodations. For example, consider Barbados, a popular year-round destination. There are some apartments for rent in Barbados, which gives you both lodging and a place to cook your meals.

Not only do self-catering apartments give you the ability to cook for yourself, but they give you the option to do laundry as well. This is not always available at self-catering hotels but typically is seen when renting an apartment. Although no one wants to do laundry on vacation, it’s a great feature to have in case you find yourself in a bind. Whether it be because the airline lost your baggage or you stained your favorite shirt, the ability to do laundry is a tremendous benefit.

Additionally, the ability to do laundry in a self-catering apartment also means you can pack light, which may be able to prevent you from having to purchase bags on your airline. With self-catering apartments, you do not have to worry about packing an outfit for each day of the week on your trip.
